Here's a good column

If you live in the Tampa-St. Pete area, write a letter to the editor of the Tampa Tribune and praise this column by Daniel Ruth. Among other things, Ruth writes:

For determining DeLay, the Palmetto Bug of the Beltway, was an ethically challenged schmo, not only will Hefley probably lose his post but the ethics committee also will be effectively gelded from doing its work - all to protect the keister of one House member.

Uh, doesn't changing the House rules to save DeLay's oily hold on power perversely suggest this twerp may be the Chemical Ali of campaign contribution?

As well, if you are going to start punishing people serving on an ethics committee for finding ethical fault with House members who commit - ALTOGETHER NOW! - ethics violations, well, what's the point of maintaining the charade that anyone in power in the House cares about ethics?

How do you really feel, Mr. Ruth?

  • For the life of me, I do not understand how the "bug man" keeps getting elected time after time. Makes me wonder about the IQ level of his district. But now we have his counterpart in the senate to deal with, John Cornyn. Disasters in the next four years should surprise no one.

  • Hey, I'm in his district and had Morrison signs in my yard, on my truck, my car, etc. and campaigned vocally to anyone who would listen. A lot of the people here are well-off and older folks who simply go on name recognition. Ignorance more than low IQ I would say, but your point is well taken. Look at the bright side, we got him down to 55% this election and he must have been scared because for a couple weeks before the election we got a mailing every other day and phone calls out the wazoo from his toady supporters. I like the thought of a nervous bugman!

  • Okay, I'll concede to ignorance instead of low IQ. But I was only referring to the ones who pulled the lever for the "bug man." I was really hoping for a Morrison upset. Maybe next time. Keep up the good work.
