Is there a link between DeLay and the Talon News scandal?

Former White House correspondent and "reporter" Jeff Gannon (A.K.A. James Guckert) is on the hot seat along with his former "employer" Talon News. His boss at Talon News, Editor in Chief Robert R. Eberle (A.K.A. Bobby Eberle), also happens to be the CEO and President of Talon's parent organization Eberle also lives and works in Houston, TX--a stone's throw from Sugarland, TX. See where we're going?

We're looking for help in finding any connection between Tom DeLay and Robert R. Eberle (remember that you may also know him as "Bobby Eberle"). We're also looking for any relationship between DeLay and or Talon News.

It's hard to imagine that Houston-based, who's mission is to spread the conservative message throughout America, has no relationship with DeLay. Anyone know of any? Post your comments below...

  • YES!!! Found this at Daily Kos: "Bruce Eberle runs Eberle Communications Group, Inc., which is involved in tom delay's fundraising scandal.

"ECG, Inc. also owns Fund Raising Strategies, Inc. and seems to prefer the name Eberle & Associates.  part of the business is PR, part is fund raising."

"Eberle also owns Omega List Company and Eberle and Omega were busted for
illegally giving data lists to Ashcroft when he was a senator.  while you're at the omega site, be sure to check out Blanquita Cullum's prattling.  this "email endorsement" stuff sounds kinda fishy and propagandistic to me."

"i'm thinking a client list of ol' brucie's could be interesting."

  • Here's the Daily Kos link .

  • I found that yesterday too. I'm not sure if there is a connection between Bruce Eberle (in VA) and Robert Eberle (in TX) that can tie us to DeLay (unless Bruce and Robert are related).

  • Another TX thread to check - is there a connection to Lamar Smith (R-Texas)? Head of the House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property. Also involved in Immigration and Homeland Security committees. I don't have my Smith notes with me but I may be able to add more this weekend.

IIRC, Eberle was a Lockheed employee. The Committee for the Liberation of Iraq was founded by ex-Lockheed VP, Bruce Jackson.

  • According the DailyKos link

Bruce and Robert are brothers and they also mention that clients have included Reagan, Oliver North and Paula Jones.

  • Thanks Muons and Shar for pointing out that Robert and Bruce are brothers. I'll use this new found information to dig a little deeper.

  • Glad to help Rick. The fact that Bruce and Bobby Eberle are brothers doesn't necessarily connect Bruce to GOPUSA, Gannon et al. But what do you want to bet? So I'm still trying to dig up more stuff on them too. Wish I had Lexis.

  • RE: Links between Rep. Lamar Smith and Bruce Eberle

Bruce Eberle and Lamar Smith were listed consecutively on the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) site (listed at the bottom of this post).

Below is exactly how the two names are listed. I didn't know what was relevant but it seems interesting they both appear to be involved with and have addresses at the DOT - FHWA.

If Lamar Smith and Eberle are involved you know Delay can't be too far behind.

Environmental Guidebook. (Status: ongoing, Completed: FY 2000)

  • According to Public Citizen both Bobby Eberle and Lamar Smith donated money to Tom Delay's defense fund.

  • Direct link between Bruce Eberle and his brother's [Bobby's] GOPUSA from Daily Kos:

Bruce Eberle founded, which was later folded into GOPUSA. Here's the link

  • From its website, Millions of Americans states as its goal: "The MOA plan last year was to support the President, and we did, by not only supporting his agenda, but by raising money for him at the end of the last election cycle.

"The work continues now into 2003 and beyond. will continue to push the President's agenda legislatively, working to pass his economic plan, and to confirm conservative judges. With your help a great deal has been done, and if we continue working, we will do a whole lot more."

But isn't Talon News supposed to be non-partisan? Don't they claim to be? Based upon my observations, howver, there's almost no difference between Talon News and GOPUSA/Millions of Americans.

  • Muons is digging up some good stuff! Great job and Thanks!

I followed the link Dr. Smith posted to the Public Citizen site and it appears that a $2,500 donation to the DeLay Defense fund was from Brother Bruce Eberle (Eberle Communications in Virginia)and not Bobby Eberle. Close but not qutie close enough.

    Thanks again!

  • Here's another connection: Bruce Eberle's group, which merged into GOPUSA, provides links to organization of "particular interest to conservatives." Among those listed is Tom Delay's Legal Expense Trust. When I try to click on the link to the Delay PAC, however, I get a pop-up saying server not found? There's nothing wrong with Eberle's website linking to a Delay PAC. But it is another connection to look into? Eberle has contributed extensively to the GOP and he also has extensive connections to the GOP as well. You probably know this: But Daily Kos has done a lot of homework on Eberle and his website is invaluable.

  • documents show Eberle Communications [Bruce Eberle], gave $2,500 to Tom Delay's legal defense trust PAC. Here's the pdf link.

  • Oh dear, I'm not sure Bobby and Bruce Eberle are brothers. But they are related. Daily Kos describes them as brothers, Media Matters describes them as related, and a GOPUSA letter from Bruce just describes Bobby as the "Texas clan" of the Eberles.
