More reflection on $784 a day in meals

Tom DeLay and his wife spent an average of $784 a day on meals while in London and Scotland, according to the Wall Street Journal analysis of travel records. A minimum wage dishwasher in a restaurant here in the U.S. would have to work 152 hours, or almost four full weeks, to make $784. Before taxes, that is.

Disgusting.

  • And I'm sure you posted a whole series of articles about your disgust with Kerry spending $4,000 on a single lunch (after a pretend photo op at Wendy's).

    [/sarcasm]

  • Yes, because, as we all know, John Kerry doing something nauseating somehow makes Tom DeLay doing something unethical or illegal OK.

When are the knee-jerk reactionaries gonna stop with the "well, SO-AND-SO TOOK MONEY FROM THAT GUY."

One guy's stupid shit doesn't make anotherguy's stupid shit OK.

  • Lets see $200 for lunch $10.00 for Wendy's and lets assume $10 for breakfast, and and even $30.00 for dinner - That makes an EXPENSIVE DAY $250.00 X 2 = $500.00 I'd say John looks like a cheap date!

  • jason, did the taxpayers pick up the tab for Kerry's expensive lunch? Cause we DID pick up delay's tab. $784 a day?! Jeebus - how much perdiem do these guys get?!

  • Jason needs to learn how to read his own sorces. Nowhere in the link he provides is there any mention of $4,000.00 for a single lunch. To equate a staff meal for 19 with an lobbyist funded binge for 2 is absurd on its face.

  • How right you are. Conservatives tend to make statements with the hope that people won't check the facts. How many idiots out there will believe that Kerry, all by himself, spent four thousand dollars on a lunch because they didn't get the complete story. There are still Wingnuts that believe Osama and Saddam are the same person and that WMD were found in Iraq. Philistinism is their domain.

  • According to Jason's link they seem to have a problem with a phoney Kerry photo op. at a fast food joint... How about phoney town hall meetings on S.S, how about a phoney white house reporter....F*ck it, how about phoney WMD and a phoney war. Maybe those are phoney casualties...nope

  • Liars like Jason think no one will fact check them. Nikola's Restaurant's entrees cost $18-$20. In order to spend $4,000 on lunch, (I'll do the math for Republicans) one would have to buy 200 entrees. Since it is alleged that 19 lunches were purchased (not a single one- note for Republicans- single means one)then the cost was less than $400. Throw in some tea and maybe some appetizers and lunch for 19 is still pretty cheap. So we have two lies- a single lunch cost $4,000 and the total was $4,000. Get a grip. Send better trolls.

  • To be fair, the prior post did say "meals and lodging," not just meals.
    This is a significant difference.
That being said, I don't understand why it isn't against House and Senate rules to accept ANY money from outside sources. This whole thing is incredibly sleazy

  • Folks, go to Jason's Blogger profile, read about him, and look at the photo. He's a massive closet case just waiting to burst out.

When you do, Jason, you better hope your current "friends" haven't killed us all—because they'll kill you for dessert. Maybe they'll tie you to a barbed-wire fence and let you hang to death like Matthew (who you resemble).

Sadly, a big chunk of the frenzied right are self-hating gays in denial. (Fred Phelps and James Dobson come to mind.) There's a long, sad history of this bunch's destructive acting-out, going back past Nixon, Hoover, and Roy Cohn.

Jason—get out of Texas. In their hearts, they know, and they hate you no matter how much you try to fit in.

  • On Jason's Blog is a tiny picture of him. When you click on the "View full size" his tiny picture stays the same tiny size.... let's hope his penis does that too.

  • Now the Ethics Committee Chairman or "Lead Investigator" will be Melissa Hart R-Pa. from Santorum's area. She accepted $10,000.00 or $15,000.00 from Delat's PAC, This will be an intebse scrutiny. RIGHT! It;s possible this could become this House's check kiting scandal. I don't care who it catches as long as Delay, Blount, Ney go. If Democrats are guilty they too. I doubt if anyone of them could be as egregious and skanky as DeLay. There are no degrees of ethical violations only punishments.

  • * didn't see the article about kerry and the alleged $4,000 lunch, but if it came from the regressives, it's at best a gross distortion, but most likely their usual lie.
    * traveling members of congress (house or senate) can receive up to 150% of the authorized per diem for the foreign country they are visiting. for example, if per diem (lodging + meals) is $200/day, the member can receive $300/day. this can be in u.s. dollars, but generally is in local currency.
    * i'd call delay slime, but that would defame slime mold everywhere. \\ born-free

  • Let's just call it like it is - Delay is a corrupt, both morally and politically, christo-fascist hypocrite right-wing criminal who is an embarrassment to republicans everywhere(I know, tell us what you really think). He represents the typical right-wingnut sludge that has polluted our great country long enough and needs to step down from public service and go back Texas to run his bug extermination business or sit on his porch with a beer in his hand and count how many bugs his bugzapper kills per hour. This would give him more than enough time to write his political testament entitled "My Struggle"(translated fron German).

  • The $4,000 is a complete distortion. Kerry had 19 lunches ordered for $200 on one occasion. A freeper moron assumed the $200 was for each lunch. WRONG! As the "real story" says:

"In fact, the five-star rating is from the Times Herald-Record, a testament to the food but not a globally recognized mark of approval like the Michelin guide. With the modest discount the restaurant provided, the meals came out to about eight bucks each."

See it for yourself at http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2004/08/07/burger00.htm

The reason I wondered about the $200/per figure is that I used to live accross the river from Newburgh and there is NO WAY they have a $200 a plate restaurant, even on their remodeled water front. The whole brouhaha was because Rush Limbaugh (as usual, speaking with no knowledge of or even remote desire to know the facts) made a big deal that the Kerrys were "pretending" to eat at Wendy's but "really" dining on fine cuisine. In fact, the lunches from the "5 star" restaurant were probably for staff, but who knows? $8 for a lunch at a "5 star" restaurant is probably not that different from a Wendy's lunch anyway.

Anyway, just another of those "freeper legends" that just will not die. Do you think "jason" will post an apology? LOL!

My site is a bit different, some think it's odd. I guess it's a matter how you look at it. I have a mens male enhancement reviews related site. Most of the articles are on mens male enhancement reviews.
