Public Campaign Action Fund statement

We released the following statement today...

TEXAS JUDGE FINDS DELAY’S POLITICAL COMMITTEE GUILTY OF VIOLATING CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAW

Washington—The watchdog group Public Campaign Action Fund released the following statement from its National Campaigns Director, David Donnelly, regarding today’s ruling against Tom DeLay’s Texans for a Republican Majority PAC (TRMPAC):

“In a court of law DeLay’s TRMPAC was found to have concealed from the public record more than half a million dollars in corporate campaign donations, in violation of state law.

“This decision, with an impartial judge and all the evidence laid out, further underscores the need for the House Ethics Committee to appoint an outside counsel. The public will not trust Tom DeLay’s cronies in Congress to do what Judge Hart did today; specifically, he ruled on the facts, not the politics, of the case.

“Americans from across the nation need to ask themselves yet again whether they want a Congress led by a man with countless ethical violations, scandals, donors to repay, and, now, a guilty verdict against his own political committee.

“Most importantly, this finding of guilt should give all of Tom DeLay’s Republican colleagues in Congress pause in considering the political future of their chosen Majority Leader.”

Public Campaign Action Fund is a national nonprofit watchdog organization dedicated to working to advance comprehensive reform of the campaign finance system to level the playing field for all Americans, and to holding elected officials accountable for the favors they do for their political contributors.

  • It's about time that this roach has been stomped on. He's crushed so many people all for the sake of money.

Here's hoping that Sugarland does us a favor and votes him out of office...

    Hope

  • FINALLY!!! took long enough, but this is from just one violation of his dirty dozen, but its a start...

Funny that CNN, Fox, Yahoo, and the NY Times have yet to pick up on this, we'll see if they have the balls to bring it up, or if they will continue to "politely abstain" from TELLING THE NEWS!

  • It's just getting harder and harder for the republicans to blow a smoke screen to cover Delay, when it was only 3 or 4 ethics violations people didn't seem to care much, because lets face, most members of congress probably have at least that, but now there must be what, like 20?, and with more and more of them coming straight from the courts even Texan courts, it's just getting easier for moderate republicans(the few there are) to tell delay and the far right where to stick it, just like the vote on stem cell research. Here's to hoping that there's some republicans in the house who have the guts to stand up to delay

  • It looks like the tide has turned for the bush. While it's great the delay has been exposed as a liar and fraud etc.

The removal of the bush is of utmost importance! America and the world can't have such an obvious looser calling the shots!

The world has to have a competent honest democratic President in the White House!!!

I will never understand why america fell for the bush! That good ol' boy charm that many people claim he has excapes me. I don't see any of it! All I see is an idiot in tails...period!!!

Ameica has sunk to a new low because of the bush!!! When a company fails to peform it's the managers fault. When america fails to perform correctly, honestly, and with integrity etc it's the presidents fault!

So while it's great to get delay the big picture screams for the bush's removal!

  • I'm so glad that something has finally stuck to that pig De Lay. I'm pretty sure that his fellow Congressmen will be deaf to the news, choosing to believe that poor old Tom is being hounded because of his religious beliefs. Yeah right. The only God he worships is the one he sees in the mirror. The man wouldn't know how to deal honestly if his life depended on it. All I can say is that if the government was in the Democrats hands and democrats were lying us into war, steeling money from Iraq, taking trips that are against the rules and trying to dismantle the government as we know it, the Republicans would have a special prosecuter on the job so fast our heads would swim. But seeing as they, or so they think, own the government and as one of the Republican party said, are making their own reality, I don't think that anything will ever be done to hold anyone in this administration accountable for anything. Including the destruction of the planet. The entire Administration, including the entire Republican party should be impeached. Why in the hell are they allowed to continue putting themselves above the law or changing the law to their advantage? I keep thinking that what goes around comes around but I don't want to wait for ever. I want justice for all the wrongs done to us by that clown and his party. Getting Tom is a start.

  • POLITICIANS BE DAMNED! THEY ARE OUR BLESSING AND OUR CURSE.

THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE HUNGERING FOR LEADERS WHO WANT TO SERVE MORE THAN PROFIT, AND ARE ABOUT TRULY SHARING WHEN THERE IS PAIN AND NOT JUST GRABING WHEN THERE IS BOUNTY.
INSTEAD, WE SELECT POLITICIANS WHO WANT THE POWER AND WILL DO AND PROMISE ANYTHING TO GET IT.

  • Hot dog! That cocky son-of-a-gun's finally got some of his own filth on his shoes. Maybe now folks will smell where's he's coming from!
May we bid Ta-Ta to this sleaze and hope that someone from Crawdad recalls the dolt in the oval office too!

  • With justice being served to DeLay in a Texas courtroom, the time is ripe for Americans (yes, even Republicans!) to stand tall and demand the removal of this scourge post-haste.

  • Tom Delay has the moral compass of a leaf in a windstorm.

Let's hope that THIS court ruling will make his protectors on the Ethics Committee see their OWN vulnerability.

He agreed to pull the plug on his own Dad but wanted Terry Schiavo to live in a vegetative state.

Here's hoping he get's his just desserts and SOON.

  • We, the fraternity of advocates of truth and honesty rejoice the fact that the Republican in charge has been found guilty. We can indeed continue to work toward several things now based on today's outcome. We know what's "right", even though we may not be religious right. We can and do make a difference with emails and the small contributions we are helped with through positive, unbiased media and other groups like MOVE ON. We can continue the fight despite that we may not all be well-armed with the corporate connections or the funds of the Second Term Resident.

I hope we'll all promise ourselves to continue the "fight" and to "up" our stance and communications...especially to share the message with those who don't read. I work with so many uninvolved people. Our huge population of hispanics hear the message from DeLay and his party in bits and pieces in Spanish...and they're buying into it. Next, getting the message out doesn't have to be a huge life-shift. It's just like getting healthier. You eat better, excercise a little. We can make an effort to really help the nation get healthier bit by bit. One by one, I sense we can make a change.
What is an independent party or Democratic party doing to sound a sonic boom of, "We're sick of this and we're not going to take it anymore?"
Fellow sympathizers....any ideas about how the grass roots can do better to stand up and let the entire world see that we're sick of the dishonesty and denial?

However, his Republican cohorts will probaly fimd him a job as a lobbist so he can continue to poison the well

  • I'm from Texas.

Its about damn time this bug boy was called to account.

Now, if you want to keep the pressure on, call the District Attorney in Travis County, who has the authority to investigate state corruption, tell him you're backing him all the way. Even if the Texas Republican dominated legislature is cutting his budget and trying to not let him investigate this.

Ronnie Earle is an honest lawyer. And a fine public servant. He need all of y'alls support to get the job done. Let him know he's got it.

I'm living in rural New York right now. Or New Yawk. Lots of Republicans who just don't get it. Well, I think its about damn time we got some Law and Order in the Republican party. I'd order them right out the door.

  • It is apparent that having an intelligent, honest, veteran, religious Democratic candidate is not enough to woo the slight majority of this country. We need an intelligent, honest, religious, good looking and charismatic candidate, with an equally good looking charismatic wife. Sad but true. Any Democrats out there that fit the bill?

  • So, it turns out DeLay is not only a crook, but a hypocrite as well. Why is it that doesn't surprise anyone with a modicum of intelligence? A better question is: what's happened to the voting public? Are they slowly becoming the Orwellian public of 1984? This whole power grab by the Republicans should be raising cries of indignation from all over the country, yet it seems the American public is no longer capable of independent thought and can only responded like a bunch of trained chimps to the propaganda spewing from the bought and paid for news organizations. As Joseph Goebbels pointed out, "if you tell a lie loud enough, and long enough, you'll get people to believe it." More and more in America it looks like Herr Goebbels was right. What's next? Marching lockstep to our Fearless Leader's tune? Be afraid, America, be VERY afraid.

  • A Texas court today found Representative Tom DeLays’s TRMPAC political fund raising machine guilty of failure to report $600,000 in corporate contributions. This $600,000 is only a small portion of the funds distributed by Mr. DeLay to Republican members of the House of Representatives. And every dollar funneled through this highly ethically challenged power monger comes thoroughly entangled in strings. Using this money he buys and sells the laws and resources of America. It is clear that Mr. DeLay’s interests and those of his corporate and religious extremist backers are being elevated far above those of the “mainstream” America behind which he routinely hides. Recent passage of an extremely harsh bankruptcy law pushed by the credit card industry is an example of his willingness to sacrifice low income individuals for the benefit of high interest money lenders. Apparently, under Mr. Delay’s enlightened tutelage, God’s opinion of money lenders has changed.
While it is encouraging that a Texas court has finally held Teflon Tommy’s feet to the fire, it is more important that his financially enslaved fellow Republican Representatives find the courage to recognize him for the corrupt and self-serving scourge that he so clearly is. He should be summarily evicted from our House of Representatives. But before anyone so inclined begins to celebrate his demise, bear in mind that the recent “stay of detonation” of the nuclear option in the Senate was purchased by allowing the appointment of Republican adjudislator Priscilla Owen to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the very court to which Teflon Tommy will go in effort to scrape $600,000 worth of dung off his shoes. He’s not gone yet. Let a Republican Representative, yours or otherwise, know that no crook is indispensable and this one needs to go.

  • I'm afraid that this dirt-bag is just the tip of the icing. Look at what scum line the White House, the Congress/Senate. Like a roach, these critters are nearly impossible to extinguish, because they feed off of anything and anybody.
Now that we are under the rule of a dictatorship, it is more difficult each day to put out the truth. Unfortunately, I believe that we have an ignorant public, who cares not for justice and the truth.

I feel Mr. Earl is a brave man , to stand up against this powerful political machine , that tries to destroy, with corruption and lies, everything thats of value to the american people. It's clear that Tom Delay portrays this corruption perfect. Although we realize an indictment is not total proof of guilt, the mere idea that Mr. Earl does something that may not be for him political correct ,but rather that it is right, ,gives me hope for this country..Thank you Mr. Earl... • It is apparent that Tom Delay has
the morals of a truck stop hooker.
He will sell himself to anyone.
    Unfortunately, the Republican horde
voted this sleaze to represent the 22nd District.

Now, not everyone here is an
' Uncle Tom ' Delay fan. Especially since he forced fed us
    the new and improved Congressional
District lines. Uncle Tom revised Texas so that the country club set would remain in power, it does not reflect the population as a whole.
Power must be retained at any price; that's Texas politics.

All we ask of the rest of the nation, is when the sewer finally
backs-up, that Uncle Tom stays in
Washington DC. If he comes back here, the country club scene, will have to raise the dues to clean up
the daily accumulation of filth, lies, and manure. After all we did send you ,GW the 43rd, and his cronies. Please help us keep our air clean. We are going to
give you all the Enron scandal. But
that comes from another Congressional District. It is so
hard to live in the hot bed of moral behaviour,Republicanism, fortunately it is not reflective of this great nation.
