New Congressional (Dis)Approval Poll

AP poll:

Overall, do you approve, disapprove or have mixed feelings about the way Congress is handling its job?

Approve, 34 percent (31)
Disapprove, 63 percent (65)
Mixed feelings, 2 percent (3)
Not sure, 1 percent (2)

And if the election for Congress were held today, would you want to see the Republicans or Democrats win control of Congress?

Republicans, 36 percent
Democrats, 49 percent
Neither (VOLUNTEERED), 12 percent
Not sure, 3 percent

Now, most will focus on the 49-36 advantage Democrats have over Republicans. But 12 percent volunteering "Neither"? Is that high? Seems high to me... Anyone with historical context?

  • If the democrats at all want the 12% who say neither, or if anyone wants them, they need to sit up and do one thing:

Shut down congress forcefully and bend the rules: then subpoena all the documents on spying, and Iraq

After that and truly showing they give a damn will these "12%" care about congress!

  • Texas is kind of funny this way.

30% of voters in 2004, instead of voting straight Republican, abstained from casting a ballot in the DeLay race. They could not bring themselves to vote Dem, nor could they support their candidate.

Better nothing than a Dem is a common standard in District 22.
