The root of the problem DeLay and friends have caused deals with a major rule change in American politics. The right is being protected for being very secretive to the public and the media has shown they are afraid to deal with the powers in office. When blatant irregularities occur, they are protected by FOX and AM radio, and in turn blame the "liberl media". People like Tom DeLay are at the front of this "Orwellian" doublethink that is being spread all over the country.
The Foreign Press and population can not believe we are buying this early move to Fascism in our elected officals.

I like the ad a lot. What I would really like to see though, is a grass roots movement to hold ALL of our public servants, from the local dog catcher and cop, to the President, accountable for their actions, and try to force them to act more ethically. It seems that more and more, many of our public servants have taken to ignoring the oaths that they have taken, ignoring common ethics, and engage in conduct that would put most of us behind bars, simply because they think that that they can get away with it.
It’s time for us to put them on notice, that people are getting tired of the monkey shines and they need to get back to work for the people.

The Chron did not say specifically why they rejected the ad above. We took some educated guesses and resubmitted a few different versions, and they were only willing to run an ad that did not have any picture on the Get Out of Jail Free card. (We made some minor text changes, too.) My speculation is that their decision was a legal one, and not political. They probably did not want to deal with any trademark-related issues with the owner of Monopoly. The Chron could be better in its coverage of DeLay, no doubt. But I do not think this decision was driven by politics. The only reason I even mentioned the Chron decision in the post above is because some people in Houston were expecting to see it there. In the end, we liked the original ad so much that we did not want to compromise, and the Houston Press agreed to run it as is.

Delay is apparently the most outrageously power hungry and corrupt politician in Washington. The willingness of many Republican House members to go with him on the Ethics Rules changes is one of the most cynically hypocritical actions I have ever seen!
