Not everyone in the 22nd Congressional District is applauded
at the way our Representative, Mr. Tom Delay, sold his office to the K street lobbyist.That is their complicity with the loss of ethics so prevalent nowadays in Congress.
Marching with blinders on, they choose not to hold Mr. Delay accountable for his ethics lapses.
I do however, feel that Mr. Delay expended a fast amount of energy in redistricting Texas.So much so, that he can not fully represent our district, until the sound of money or gratuitous trips, revitalize his interest. I presently, do feel safer, now that Mr. Delay went to St. Andrews, Scotland's golf courses.In the Bible belt, this is exactly what we need, to be sure that not to much Scotch crosses our borders illegally.
Representing the 22nd District fully,in the style of a Compassionate Conservative, Mr. Delay, we thank you for your exemplary behaviour. Our nation and the rest of the world view the 22nd District as a hot bed of moral behavior.

On taxes: greatly reduce or even eliminate all taxes on wages -- i.e., money people WORK for. Replace that revenue with increased taxes on capital gains and large inheritances. In other words, do the opposite of the policies of the obscenely rich Republicans, which the foolish and ignorant Republican masses unthinkingly support under the banner of "tax cuts", as if it were THEIR taxes being cut (even that puny $300 check was a loan, not a cut, that was paid back in income taxes).

Or alternatively, maintain the payroll taxes on registered Republicans -- after all, that's what they voted for (but were too dumb to realize it).

I am a centrist Democrat who believes in some ideas. Despite the right-wing rhetoric, we do have them, but the GOP, owning 2 (do I hear 3?) branches of government makes it a little tough to be heard. A previous poster was right, the Republicans dont ask for our ideas. BY their sheer numbers in Congress, they dont have to. Lets be honest. If they do, its a token gesture and their ideas are Sh*%canned (or hijacked)in the end.
If I were a partisan democrat (which I am not), I would hold all my stratic ideas close to the vest. Why let the GOP steal DEM ideas that may help get themselves out of their self-made troubles?
Here are a few ideas I have as a centrist democrat though, seeing as you dont think DEmocrats seem to have any:

(1)Deficits are Real! But are being ignored under the spend-crazy GOP (who use to make the deficit such a big deal in the 90's). Remember the balanced budget act? A combination of spending cuts and higher tax contributions for the top 1% of persons in this country that own 40% of the money. It worked, and as far as I know, no millionaires went bankrupt as a result. So why are republicans suddenly afraid of cutting spending? If they want to perpatuate the tax advantage to the wealthy and not raise taxes, then the only alternative is budget cuts. Tom Delay said recently 'Weve trimmed all the fat'. I say BS to that. If a Democrat haid said that, the neo cons would have jumped all over it.

Across the board spending cuts need to be made, no program should be totally exempt(including the military and corporate subsidies) Some programs should be cut more than others, but the time has come to weed out pork and restore some financial discipline. We had that prior to the election of 2000.
Im a democrat, but I urge you, GOP, listen to John McCain! You should have listened to him in 2000!

BTW- Deeply Cutting Medicaid and Food Stamps to the poor to finace the re-building of New Orleans where most of the poor there will need Medicaid or Food Stamps? How does that make sense?...anyway...

(2)Tax cuts should not go to the wealthy, they should go to the middle class and small businesses. I say keep the tax cuts to the middle class permanent and do not let them expire. MAke sure that small business owners are included in the tax cut extension. But end big business tax cuts and income tax cuts to wealthy individuals (not small business owners) making over $200,000 per year.

(3) Corprate tax breaks should be earned. Breaks should be given to companies who do not outsource labor in wholesale fashion to foreign markets. Why reward a company for taking away US Jobs?
Conversely, Tax breaks should be taken away from companies prosecuted for corporate fraud and abuse.

(4)Energy tax breaks should be given to businesses that reduce their consumption of fossil fuels and electricity by at least 10%.

(5) Energy grants and tax breaks should be shifted more to companies who develop clean energy and anti-pollution technologies than going to existing oil companies to explore new oil resources, a natural resource which is being depleted. We need a progressive strategy towards weaning ourself not off of 'foreign ' oil, but off of oil...period. We also need to raise the fuel economy standards of automobiles.
Other countries are taking the lead on these initiatives. If we dont wean ourselves from the teat of fossil fuels, and start embracing alternative energy (even a steady, incremental process), other coutries will own the energy and anti-pollution technologies of the future, leaving us in the position of having to import technology (expense) rather than to own it and export it as an an American technology (profit).

(2) Global Warming is Real. We need to engage with the rest of the world who is trying to do something about it. Our reluctance to join (or even discuss) global environmental pacts is appalling and just fuels US isolation from the rest of the world.

(3) GOP Corruption is real. It probably exists in some Dem circles as well. DElay, Rove and Libby may be criminals, maybe not. But the arrogance of power is growing. Regardless of REpublican or Democrat, corrup leaders who are indicted should resign or be fired. Period.

(4) I was intially for the war when I bought the yellow cake lie like many of us did. I am angry that we rushed into the war under false pretenses and that we did nothing in advance to protect oil pipelines, water facilities, electricity facilities and sewer system that are still op0en and frequently attacked targets for the insurgency. We made huge mistakes that have prolonged this war.
However.... we are there, we support our loved ones in battle and respect their sacrifice.
Beleive it or not, most democrats dont want to pull every soldier back home immediately. Many polls attest to this fact. My view is that we should put pressure on the IRAQI government between now and the elections in December (if they occur) and say we will (as an official plan) withdrawl troops proportionaltely with the readiness status of Iraqi military forces. Starting right now! That is, withdrawl as they stand up. They say 1 Iraqi batallion is ready to fight on its own right now. If true, then send an equal number of US soldiers home....NOw! If we dont, we just perpetuate the crutch of US back up if they (Iraqi security forces) are not up to snuff. This security blanket does nothing to create any urgency or pressure for the IRAQi forces to get up to speed.
Americans (democrats and Republicans alike), want some type of plan for bringing troops home. We are smart enough to know it cant happen all at once, but we need a plan that people can measure progess against. Democrats would be wise to put an alternative, honorable and smart proposal for an IRAQ exit strategy forward from within the party and and put it out their for public consideration.

The poster here that said Democrats dont have any ideas is incorrect in the assessment of the Democrat's problems. We do have ideas. Our problem is articulating them in chambers dominated by tin ear republicans. They are simply not considered, not brought up for votes or simply ignored because it contrasts with the view of the Bush Administration or the power hungry (but overreaching) neo-cons.
The Democrats, while smartly staying on the sidelines watching the GOP infighting and coruption debacles will need to form a unified vison for the country and articulate it as a pckaged alternative prior to the 2006 mid-term elections if they want to win bak their majority.
With an approval rating of 38% saying IRAQ was not worth the cost, a 39% approval for how BUsh on handling his job as president and an even lower approval % for congress and (controlled by the GOP), the DEMS have a golden opportunity to redifine a different future for the United States and a return to respect in the world.
We need someone of charisma and chracter and experience to voice this message. Its too bad Barack Obama needs a few more years to get the 'time in' to have legitamate political and Foreign relations experience. He already has the Charisma and character. I think he will be your president in 2012 and possible good VP pick for 2008.
Bottom line is, DEms need a revised platform that moves them closer to the center, ensures that the country knows the truth that Dems have religious belifs and faith too (we have been falsely accussed of being against those of faith). DEms also need to ofer a visonary alternative challenge to the neo-con philosophy as a whole intead of focusing just on the president or Karl Rove...or Tom Delay or a particular bill. We seem content with just busting the offenders rather than challenging the political neo con philosophy that has fostered and perpetuated the bad behavior that begs for a more ethical mode of operation.

All I know, and it has put pause to the dittos in my circle, is that the foreman of the first Grand Jury to return indictments was a Deputy Sheriff in Texas for 20 years and then an Investigator for the Insurance Commission. That is, someone with a professional understanding of both the law AND standards of evidence. That alone does not make Mr. Delay guilty, but it certainly makes any political motive of Mr. Earle's quite beside the point. No matter how partisan Mr. Earle may be (and only extreme and historically unreliable partisans seem to say so), no professional lawman is going to be swayed by political bloviation. Or will the usual tightie-righties now smear Texas law enforcement in their determination to end-run the evidence?

By the way, I'm happy to agree with Anon that rich political funders should be transparent in whome they support.
